European Commission – Head of Unit, Digital Innovation and Blockchain

Pēteris Zilgalvis is the Head of Unit for Digital Innovation and Blockchain in the Digital Single Market Directorate in DG CONNECT and is the Co-Chair of the European Commission FinTech Task Force. He was the Visiting EU Fellow at St. Antony’s College, University of Oxford for 2013-14, where was an Associate of the Political Economy of Financial Markets Programme. From 1997 to 2005, he was Deputy Head of the Bioethics Department of the Council of Europe, in its Directorate General of Legal Affairs. In addition, he has held various positions in the Latvian civil service (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Environment). He was Senior Environmental Law Advisor to the World Bank/Russian Federation Environmental Management Project and was Regional Environmental Specialist for the Baltic Countries at the World Bank. He has been a member of the California State Bar since 1991, completed his J.D. at the University of Southern California, his B.A. in Political Science Cum Laude at UCLA, the High Potentials Leadership Program at Harvard Business School, and Computer Science for Lawyers at Harvard Law School. A recent publication of his is “The Need for an Innovation Principle in Regulatory Impact Assessment: The Case of Finance and Innovation in Europe” in Policy & Internet. An upcoming publication is “The Law and Political Economy of Decentralised Digital Ecosystems”.

Daniele Marinelli, from Italy, twenty-three years of freelance as an accountant and business consultant in the Prati district of Rome. In 2010 he took on the position of corporate advisor and was among the first in Italy to buy Bitcoin, sensing the potential of the emerging blockchain technology. In 2016 he dedicated himself to the analysis of cryptocurrencies built on economic systems, taking the path that led to the creation of DTCircle and DTCOIN.

Kevin led the company from business plan founding to over $400M in annual revenue serving over 500 million players. Kabam developed leading partnerships with Marvel, Star Wars, Fast & Furious, Lord of the Rings, and Hunger Games. Kabam was profitable from 2012 until the sale of the company’s studios to Netmarble, 21st Century Fox, and GAEA, which in total generated nearly $1 billion in value. He’s been honored by Fortune in 40 under 40, CNN in Smartest People in Tech, and Business Insider’s Silicon Valley Top 100. Kevin Chou graduated magna cum laude from the UC Berkeley undergraduate Haas School of Business program. He serves on the Board of Trustees at UC Berkeley.

A pioneer of web development in Argentina and Latin America since 1995, Diego was also one of the first persons to foster and develop Bitcoin and blockchain technology in Latin America, which he has done since 2012. In addition to RSK Labs, he also has co-founded Koibanx, another blockchain company that is aiming to transform the potential of Bitcoin and blockchain technologies into real use cases, which serve as a driver for social and economic change. Diego is also co-founder of the Argentine Bitcoin NGO, with over 5000 members registered at the meetups and 30,000 members in its online community, and the first Bitcoin Center in Latam. He is also president and co-founder of the Bitcoin Latam NGO, where he helped create a network of Bitcoin communities with presence in 9 countries in the region and the longest running Bitcoin Conference in the world (www.labitconf.com). 

His extensive experience includes being part of the founding teams of some of the most well-known digital projects in Argentina and Latin America, including Clarín Digital (Argentina’s largest newspaper´s website), Patagon.com (a financial community sold to Banco Santander for 750M), Internet Argentina (the first Argentine ISP to provide ADSL) and Edunexo (provider of an SaaS platform to administer public and private educational institutions in Latin America and Spain).

 
He also held the position head of R&D at ElSitio.com, where he led a team of 25 developers.
